Welcome to the website of Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q), the gateway to information about our institution, programs and activities.
The website covers our educational programs, clinical activities and research program. There are sections for faculty, students, potential students and their families, along with media materials, news reports and an archive covering the life and work of the WCMC-Q community past and present.
You may also discover the wider context in which we operate, as part of Cornell University and Weill Cornell Medical College in the U.S., and as a member of Qatar Foundation. Our close ties with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and the National Health Authority in medical education, health care and research, and our growing collaboration with institutions such as Qatar University, are also reflected here.
Following the landmark year of the graduation of the Class of 2008, Qatar’s first ‘home-grown’ doctors, I am delighted to serve as Interim Dean as the College transitions from the strong leadership of the founding Dean, Daniel R. Alonso, M.D. There have been many accomplishments since the college began and there are a host of new opportunities in the coming months and years. Information on these accomplishments and opportunities is available on this website.
Exciting future developments include the role WCMC-Q will play as part of a world-class academic medical center on completion of Qatar Foundation’s Sidra Medical and Research Center, currently under construction on the Education City campus. Working together, WCMC-Q, Sidra and HMC will implement “one program in multiple institutions,” achieving strength through collaborative effort.
The goal of building a world-class biomedical research program at WCMC-Q is well underway. Main objectives of this program include developing first-rate basic, translational and clinical research projects that establish Qatar as a Center of Excellence in biomedical research, attracting a critical mass of research faculty in Qatar, and drawing upon the strengths of the existing and future Qatar healthcare sector.
