The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has adopted a five-year national health strategy that seeks to provide quality healthcare to all segments of the society at affordable prices.
The strategy for the next five years (2011- 2016) comprises 35 projects that “will change the healthcare system in Qatar to provide comprehensive healthcare on a par with international standards to all the people in the country,” the Minister of Health and General Secretary of Supreme Council of Health (SCH) H E Abdullah bin Khaled Al Qahtani said in a statement yesterday. He added that Qatar would have a comprehensive system of high quality health services by providing continual care and preventive services in community medicine supported by research.
The Minister said providing such services required training to national staff and setting national policies to organise and monitor the healthcare sector.
“Implementation of a successful national health strategy requires hard work in public sector in addition to strengthening collaboration between all sectors to achieve positive results for all members of the society,” said Al Qahtani.
This strategy focuses on the need to transform the health sector to become a model for other sectors. “This strategy is the first of its kind in Qatar, adopted after six months of planning and consultation with all the parties concerned and in cooperation with the General Secretariat for Development Planning,” said Al Qahtani. He said the five-year strategy would result in providing effective healthcare to all categories at reasonable prices. It had been formulated in accordance with the Qatar Vision 2030.
The national health strategy is one of the 14 national strategies covering education and training, labour market, security and public safety, community protection, family stability, women empowerment, economic management, economic diversification, private sector growth, natural resources, and the like.
