Emirates Paediatric Society and American Academy of Pediatrics form strategic alliance, with signing of Memorandum of Understanding
MoU, led by The City Hospital’s Paediatrician Dr. Alya Ahmad and Dr Shaharban Abdullah of the Emirates Pediatric Society will strengthen paediatric care and expertise in UAE through alignment of international care standards and development of paediatrician network
Dubai, UAE, 11 February 2010 – The City Hospital, operated by EHL Management Services – a leading provider of healthcare in the Middle East, brought together representatives from the Emirates Paediatric Society (EPS) and from the American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP) to sign a Memorandum of Understanding to build a strategic alliance, with the aim of creating a solid network of physicians and paediatricians for the UAE. The signing is the latest move by The City Hospital to provide healthcare of a world-class standard in the UAE.
Dr. Alya Ahmad, official spokesperson for the AAP in the UAE and a Consultant level paediatrician at The City Hospital, and Dr Shahraban Abdullah from the Pediatrics Emirates Society met with Dr. Errol R. Alden – AAP’s chief executive officer, and Mr. John Forbes, the Academy’s chief operating officer, alongside Dr. Ali Al Numairy, Chairman of Emirates Medical Association. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) comes after over a year of discussions between the parties, with the aim of creating a strategic alliance devoted to improving paediatric care standards in the country.
Aside from the development of a network of paediatricians in the UAE, the strategic alliance will improve the practice of paediatric care across the emirates, by aligning it with the best and latest international care standards and guidelines. Furthermore, the alliance will enable the development of continuing medical education (CME) programmes to deliver training in the latest medical developments and practices to all UAE medical professionals that work in paediatric healthcare.
Speaking about the signing of the MoU, Dr. Alya Ahmad said: “This is a move that will only serve to improve the standards of medical expertise and care delivery for paediatric patients across the UAE. This initiative highlights the UAE’s commitment to delivering healthcare to a world class standard, and we look forward to the many future benefits this move will bring.”
The American Academy of Paediatrics is an organisation of 60,000 paediatricians committed to the attainment of optimal physical, mental and social health and well-being for all infants, children, adolescents and young adults. The Emirates Paediatric Society is an organization of the Emirates Medical Association and represents over 250 Pediatricians across the UAE. It was founded in 1980 and since then it works towards enhancing a high level care standard for children, provide regular CME meetings for physicians and represents paediatricians as they advocate for the improving the health of children in the region.
