A recent study has stated that for helping obese adults to shed some pounds, low-fat and low-carbohydrate diets can be equally effective. Findings stated that a diet low in carbs is good for health when it comes to heart health especially.
According to researchers, the findings mean that heart health has no threat from diets that are low in carbs but are comparatively high in fats.
The two-year study was able to establish the fact that people who consumed low-crabs diet saw a rise in good HDL cholesterol as compared to those who were following the low-fat diet.
A reduction in diagnostic blood pressure, a bottom number in the blood pressure reading was also noticed among those who had low-carbs.
Lead researcher Dr. Gary D. Foster of Temple University in Philadelphia adds that despite these findings it does not mean that everyone should start following the low-carb regimen.
He said that, “Both diets, helped people shed pounds and improve their risk factors for heart disease. So the bottom line is that individuals should choose the diet changes that they can live with for the long haul. With either diet, you’re looking pretty good.”
