The Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD) has waived fines incurred by many who failed to renew health insurance cards.
The health authority has given a grace period till the end of the year to renew insurance.
Dr Jamal Mohammad Al Ka’abi, Customer Service Direcor at HAAD, has confirmed that 80 per cent of the fines for delay in issuing insurance cards have been waived. The committee, which was recently constituted by health authority to look into people’s complaints, was instrumental in waiving penalties to the tune of about Dh50,000.
Al Ka’abi said at a press conference on Tuesday that some of these complaints did not qualify for exemption and they should pay the fine. The request for fine waiver were considered on a case-by-case basis. In many cases the fines were reduced or waived on the basis of the accompanied documents.
The committee used to receive between 50 to 70 complaints daily in the first week of September. Dr. Jamal said that 90 per cent of the waiver requests were from labourers and farmers.
