AN international conference on internal medicine was organised in Sharjah Saturday by the Iraqi Medical Association, in collaboration with the Sharjah Medical Zone and the University of Michigan.
At the opening of the conference, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, director of Sharjah Medical Zone, highlighted the significance of specialised scientific conferences aimed at improving the performance of doctors.
“Exchange of practical experiences and information on the latest medical developments will positively affect the continued development of the medical profession and healthcare services,” he added.
Dr Ali Aharjan, president of Iraqi Medical Association, said that en eminent group of foreign and regional experts including Professor William Herman, Director of Training and Research of Diabetes at the Michigan University participated in the conference, which was held on Saturday.
“About 300 doctors attended the conference, which discussed topics including rehabilitation of patients with brain clots, brain injuries, spinal injuries, and rehabilitation after accidents,” said Kassab Abdul Salam, president of the scientific committee of the conference.
He pointed out that the doctors discussed global developments in the internal medicine specialisation.
“The conference also debated effectiveness of intensive insulin therapy in patients with diabetes type I, treatment of type II diabetes, diabetes and obesity, including prevention and treatment of obesity.”
“The latest developments in the treatment of osteoporosis, diseases of joints, muscle aches, and the latest developments in diagnosis of thyroid disease were also under discussion,” added Salam.
