The first Nursing Student Association Qatar (NSA-Q) was inaugurated yesterday as part of the continuing professionalisation of nursing in Qatar.
This association has been formed by the students of the University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) to become future evolutionists of the profession as it is rapidly developing in the Gulf region.
“NSAQ will support nursing students in their academic journey, professional career, and to prepare future nursing leaders for active roles in their community,” said Afrah Mooosa Ali, a graduate from UCQ, who initiated the formation of NSAQ.
Nurses in Qatar are performing increasingly complex clinical and non-clinical functions in healthcare.
While Qatar is developing a world-class nursing workforce to better support the country’s ambitions plans for healthcare reform aimed at improving the health and well-being of the people of Qatar.
NSAQ aims to promote nursing as a profession as there is a sustained shortage of nurses. The association is structured to transform nursing students into renowned professionals.
UCQ celebrated the inauguration of this first nursing student association with representatives from the Hamad Medical Cooperation, students and faculty members.
Dr Carolyn Byne, Dean, UCQ, congratulated the students and stressed the importance of the association. The functions and goals were explained by executive members of the association, while the constitution was also
introduced.
