A post-doctoral researcher at WCMC-Q is one of six investigators to recently win the Young Scientists Research Experience (YSREP) grant through the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF).
Rachel Jones, PhD, will use the $100,000 annual grant for the next three years towards research into molecules that deliver genetic material
into cells.
Jones will be testing a particle, known as a vector that carries DNA into cells for therapeutic purposes. The vector under study is unique in that it is visible to the naked eye and is more stable than traditional vector methods in studies. Traditional vectors, involving fluorescent ‘tags,’ have so far proven disrupt the way the DNA is delivered to the cell.
“We are deeply grateful that the Qatar National Research Fund continues to develop innovative grant programs that encourage researchers at all levels to seek knowledge on the forefront of biomedical research,” said Dr Khaled Machaca, associate dean for research at WCMC-Q.
“This study in particular is an exciting prospect into a critical field that stands to change the way we treat disease into the future.”
