The Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel and HHS have collaborated to expand the adoption and interoperability of electronic health records. According to Fran Schrotter, HITSP’s project director and senior vice president and chief operating officer of the American National Standards Institute- ‘During the extension period, HITSP will collaborate with CMS on a project on quality demonstration, conduct monthly informational update calls and take part in the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society’s (HIMSS) annual conference and exhibition. The contract extension ensures that HITSP volunteers remain engaged until the next phase of standards harmonization which will be funded by the Office of the National Coordinator, United States.
