A THANKSGIVING lunch was held at the American Mission Hospital (AMH) to celebrate the success of this year’s community outreach events.
The highlight of the event included free health checks, which were conducted at five social centres around Bahrain.
All were carried out with the support of BMI Bank and the co-ordination of the Social Development Ministry.
Present at the event were the staff of AMH, BMI Bank and the ministry who were involved in the success of the event.
They were all recognised at the event with certificates and gifts.
“Since I joined the American Mission Hospital one year ago, of all the endeavours of the hospital, the community outreach programme is the one closest to my heart,” said AMH chief medical officer and chief executive officer Dr George Cheriyan.
“As a mission hospital our pioneers were committed to the community by providing medical care and support to the island.
“I feel that we are fulfilling the vision they had of a healthy and disease-free society by going out into the community to identify chronic medical conditions so that they can be prevented or detected in time.
“Of course, the support of committed organisations such as BMI and the ministry as well is a major factor in helping us to fulfil our obligation faithfully.”
AMH community outreach organiser Bahnaz Abbas said the community outreach event had really picked up pace since its inception five years ago.
“We are delighted that we can continue to serve the community of Bahrain through this endeavour as this was the mission of our pioneers when they came to the island 107 years ago,” she said.
“During this event, we covered more than 1,000 people at the five social centres giving them free health checks and medical advice.
“This is a very crucial part of the campaign as over the years our doctors have managed to identify numerous patients who are suffering from chronic medical conditions and are either not aware of it or do not know the seriousness of their health problems.”
BMI Bank chief executive officer Jamal Hazeem said the bank was delighted to be part of the programme.
Ministry human resources and finance assistant under-secretary Maha Mandeel praised the commitment of BMI Bank to the community.
Commitment
“During these campaigns, we play the role of identifying the right people to benefit from these projects as we feel that such noble gestures deserve to be dealt in the most justifiable manner as possible,” she said.
