Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Ajman has succeeded in bringing the smile to a UAE national of 21 months who has been suffering for more than two months and visiting a number of hospitals in the UAE. The medical checkups proved that the child had bone tuberculosis particularly between the 7th and 8th ribs and could not precede his life as other children normally. Doctors witnessed that this is a rare case they have not seen since a very long time.
Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Ajman received the case after visiting a number of public and private hospitals in the UAE.
Dr. Wagih Al Seesy, Orthopedic Consultant and Health of Orthopedic Department in Khalifa Hospital in Ajman, said: “Essa, a 21 months old UAE national visited the clinic on 22nd December after the father noticing that his son cannot walk normally. After reviewing the boy’s case by a consultants team from the general surgery, orthopedic, x-ray and pediatric departments in the hospital and making the necessary tests, x-rays and MRI, the team discovered that the young boy suffers from a hunchback between his chest ribs with inflammation marks. The initial test announced a suspected case of cancerous tumor in the backbone, a 100% rare case”.
Al Seesy added that after the required tests, the doctors discovered that the boy suffered from tuberculosis in the 11th and 12th bone chests as well as an abscess inside the stomach muscles below the right kidney that led to the movement of the kidney from its normal place. The doctors then did a suction operation through the ultrasound imaging of the abscess in the attendance of consultants from the orthopedic, general surgery and diagnosis x-ray departments.
The Head of the orthopedic department explained that about 17 ml from the tuberculosis abscess was sucked with bacterial diagnosis and tissue analysis; such amounts are considered very big amounts for a child in this age.
He also added that the purpose of sucking the abscess is to drain and get rid of all the toxins from the boy’s body and prevent the dissemination of tuberculosis inside the spinal cord that may lead to paralysis.
Al Seesy mentioned that a special cast has been made to correct the spinal cord and control tuberculosis and his condition now is stable pointing out that the boy needs now intensive care by his family with regular checkups to the hospital and taking the medicine regularly as well.
Furthermore, Hamad Taryam Al Shamsi, Director of Ajman Medical District and Director of Sheikh Khalifa Hospital, expressed his happiness for this medical accomplishment noting that the successful operation returned the smile to the entire family after seeing their son’s health deteriorating to such an extent.
