JEDDAH: Princess Adela Bint Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz said that the recent Royal Orders to establish medical cities all over the country would enhance the health services, and create a qualitative leap in health care in the Kingdom.
The statement came during her patronage of the ceremony in Riyadh Saturday honoring mothers of children afflicted with cancer. The ceremony was held in recognition of the important role that mothers play in the medical treatment of children.
Princess Adela said that the recently issued Royal Orders would provide more services to cancer patients in oncology centers. She added that this will surely have a positive effect on the quality of services provided to cancer patients, especially children.
On behalf of all citizens, Princess Adela expressed her deep gratitude to King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Crown Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz and Second Deputy Premier Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz for the interest they have shown in people’s health and safety .
Arwa Al-Ammari, a nutritionist, stressed the essential role that healthy food can play in activating the immune system in children, in particular.
“It also increases the effectiveness of the drugs that a cancer patient receives, in that healthy food supplies the body with the needed amount of calories and protein,” Al-Ammari said.
She added that nutrition in children afflicted with cancer can be divided into four main phases.
“These stages are the pre-treatment stage, the chemical and radiation treatment stages, when immunity decreases, and the post-treatment stage. Each one of these stages demand special kinds of food and nutrition,” she said.
