Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) managed by Cleveland Clinic has been accredited by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) for its Main Laboratory and the Abu Dhabi Blood Bank.
The College of American Pathologists is a medical society that serves more than 17,000 physician members and the laboratory community throughout the world. It is the world’s largest association composed exclusively of Board-certified pathologists and is widely considered to be the leader in laboratory quality assurance. The College is an advocate for high quality and cost-effective patient care.
The on-site evaluation of SKMC Laboratory and the Abu Dhabi Blood Bank occurred on 9 – 10 December 2010 and was conducted by a team of international health care experts, including pathologists and senior technical supervisors, approved as inspectors by the College of American Pathologists.
Commenting on the achievement, Saif Bader Al Qubaisi, SEHA’s Chairman stated “This is in keeping with our mission to deliver world class healthcare to our patients and with our vision to be compared with the best healthcare facilities internationally.
We are very proud of this accomplishment and would like to congratulate the employees at SKMC especially those hidden professionals working at the laboratory as well as the Abu Dhabi Blood Bank whose hard work and dedication to excellence helped achieve this honour”.
Carl Stanifer, CEO of SEHA added, “The accreditation process for SKMC’s Laboratory and Abu Dhabi Blood Bank has played a vital role in monitoring specimens testing and blood donating services delivery at SKMC.
The accreditation status granted from the American College of Pathologists ensures that SKMC is consistently delivering the highest standards of quality services and has attained a high level of patient satisfaction.” Dr. Tej Maini, Chief Executive Officer at SKMC commented, “SKMC has achieved this accreditation because of the on-going commitment of many professional groups in the Laboratory Medicine Department and the Abu Dhabi Blood Bank. Their continuous collective and collaborative efforts fulfill a wide set of stringent criteria which both the Laboratory and the Blood Bank has met and has sometimes exceeded.”
