Dubai, May 19th, 2010 (WAM)–The Ministry of Health (MoH) represented by the national committee for fighting diabetes, began today the second phase of the diabetes campaign in a number of shopping malls, organisations and companies all over the UAE.
Beginning in Abu Dhabi Mall, the campaign will include free blood sugar tests in addition to other awareness campaigns and distribution of health education brochures.
Dr. Mahmood Fikri, executive director for Health Policies at the MoH and Chair of diabetes national committee said: “The campaign comes under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Hanif Hassan, UAE Minister of Health and aims for enhancing the prevention of diabetes, and its contractions as well as the introduction to the national campaign that will end on 14th November”.
Dr. Fikri explained that the campaign will continue throughout the forthcoming months in a number of shopping malls, public and private departments all over the UAE. “Since the launch of the campaign coinciding with the World Diabetes Day to fight diabetes our activities witnessed very positive response from a number of health organisations and this encouraged us to make greater efforts in increasing our diabetes plans and strategies.”
Dr. Fikri elaborated that the campaign does not depend on early detection programmes only but includes lectures and seminars to be conducted at the premises of companies, organisations and public places. The campaign also aims for ratifying and recording the updated data and information about diabetes which can be used in hospitals, healthcare centres and clinics in the UAE.
