As part of the adult autism strategy the National Autistic Society (NAS), funded by the Department of Health, is conducting research into the learning and development needs of the mainstream health and social care workforce. The project, commissioned by Skills for Care and Skills for Health, will inform a new autism training framework after the NAS found over three quarters of local authorities do not have an autism training strategy.
Carol Povey, Director of the NAS Centre for Autism said; “Autism is a complex condition which affects individuals in very different ways. We know that many health and social care professionals are crying out for more autism support but simply aren’t getting the training they need to provide effective help. This is their opportunity to inform and shape a new training framework to meet their learning and development needs. The right support at the right time can make an enormous difference.”
Mainstream (non-specialist) health and social care professionals who work with people with autism are invited to have their say via an online survey here.
The survey closes on 8th October and is specifically aimed at health and social care commissioners, providers (including staff at all levels), carers, people with autism and professional bodies.
