RIYADH: Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, chairman of the board of trustees of the Alwaleed bin Talal Foundation, has donated SR500,000 for the second phase of a breast cancer awareness campaign in the Kingdom.
The campaign is aimed at raising national awareness to fight breast cancer and early detection through self-examination, medical check-ups and focusing on the importance of regular mammogram screening. Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel is the vice chairwoman of the foundation’s board.
The Zahra Breast Cancer Association, headed by Princess Haifa bint Faisal, carries out breast cancer awareness programs. The society, moreover, carries out a comprehensive survey across Saudi Arabia to encourage qualified Saudi nationals in the areas of breast cancer research through training programs, education and scholarships for further research in the area.
The Alwaleed bin Talal Foundation supported a breast cancer awareness campaign with a donation of SR300,000 in 2002. The foundation aims to highlight this important issue that is affecting Saudi women and support research into the reasons behind the spread of the disease and prevention.
The foundation encourages and supports organizations, studies, and academic centers focusing on empowering Saudi women, alleviating poverty, upgrading services provided to the population, and other social infrastructure issues that face the country.
