Renowned Japanese eye surgeon Prof Takayuki Akahoshi (pictured), returns to Muscat next month in line with a commitment by local host, Muscat Eye Laser Center, to enabling the delivery of truly world-class eye surgical care services within the Omani private sector.
The two-day tour, set for February 12-13, will build on Prof Akahoshi’s hugely successfully maiden visit last October during which the Sultanate was acquainted at first-hand with the formidable cataract surgery skills of the legendary surgeon.
A second visit that took place towards the end of December drew an even stronger response from patients and customers eager to benefit from the celebrated surgeon’s unrivalled capabilities.
Both visits were hosted by Muscat Eye Laser Center. The center has entered into an exclusive partnership arrangement with the internationally distinguished surgeon to offer its clientele with an unsurpassed degree of eye care services at the cutting-edge of surgical ophthalmology.
“We feel deeply privileged and fortunate to be able to host someone of the international stature of Prof. Akahoshi, whose services are much sought-after around the world,” says Samir al Awam CEO of Muscat Eye Laser Center.
“During his previous visits to Muscat, Prof Akahoshi fully lived up to his reputation as a stalwart among the world’s leading eye care surgeons — something we’re eagerly looking forward to witnessing during his upcoming visit as well. Indeed, through a combination of his prodigious expertise in cataract eye surgery, and our sophisticated surgical and post-operative care facilities, we are working towards creating a new benchmark in private ophthalmic surgical services in the Sultanate,” Samir adds.
Prof Akahoshi, who serves at the Mitsui Memorial Hospital in Tokyo as its Director of Ophthalmology, is acknowledged as a world authority on cataract surgery. Among his many contributions to the world of ophthalmological practice is a revolutionary pre-chopper cataract surgery device that divides the nucleus through a tiny incision and greatly reduces phaco-emulsification time and ultrasound energy.
This invention has been embraced by leading eye care institutions around the world in offering safe and convenient cataract surgeries.
The Japanese surgeon, who counts several heads of state among its patrons, is also credited with devising the ground-breaking Knuckle Tip that increases safety and efficiency in cataract surgery.
