BAHRAIN investors were yesterday urged to play their part in helping to rebuild Iraq’s healthcare infrastructure.
Iraq Health Ministry’s director of planning and resource development Dr Ali Abdul Hussein Al Alwachi said the government was planning to carry out major improvements in the sector.
“The Iraqi government has pledged to increase the health budget to $4 billion (BD1.5bn) this year through investments in hospitals and clinics,” he said.
The Iraqi was one of the speakers at the healthcare Infrastructure World MENA 2010 event at Gulf Hotel.
“The biggest challenge we face is to rebuild the health system in Iraq through construction of tent hospitals and increase in bed facilities,” he said.
“According to the plans, there are about 10 such hospitals with a 200-bed capacity each to be constructed in the pipeline.”
Dr Al Alwachi said Iraq was also on the lookout for world class medical staff and investors from Bahrain and other countries to fund healthcare infrastructure development.
“We certainly want to encourage investment especially in health sector to provide better services to Iraqi citizens,” he added. Caption:
