Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), yesterday, concluded its weeklong activities in observance of Infection Control Week, which began on Sunday, November 28.
The activities consisted of educational lectures that emphasize ways to prevent infection, such as the importance of hand cleaning, and how to prevent influenza, particularly during winter time, and avert its complications. The event was organised by Infection Prevention and Control Department of HMC under the theme “Infection control is everyone’s business.”
“The infection control programme has become an exact clinical science and speciality in Qatar, though it is still unrecognised in many parts of the world,” said Dr Mamoun Elsheikh, assistant executive director of HMC’s Infection Prevention and Control Department.
Dr Mozah Al Ishaq, executive director of Risks Management and Patient Safety, explained that the weeklong event aimed to increase awareness in healthcare settings, as studies have revealed that a considerable number of diseases are attributed to hospital-acquired infections.
